Notes for George Flack
George served his tailoring apprenticeship in Brussels, Belgium. He was tailoring to Prince A lbert, Queeen Victoria's husband.When he decided to leave England and come to australia, Prin ce Albert presented him with an engraved pen.

He arrived in Adelaide in 1851 on board the "Lady Flora" and was to set up a tailoring busine ss. However, gold fever was prevalent and so he decided to push on to Melbourne. He first se t up business in Collingwood, and then he tried his luck at prospecting before settling bac k to his trade.

Eventually he went to Ballan in Victoria. He owned the Post Office, the granary, the hotel Be lluvue and a number of farms.

George Flack was the first to run the newly built (1856 approx) Ballan Hotel. He also ran th e General Store, butchery and bakery. Also for many years was the changing station for the Co bb & Co. Coaches.

He died at 6.30am on13 Mar 1900 age 91 years
